It has been about a month since I posted an entry, which is like three eternities on a blog. I don't know if anyone is still reading, but I'm still going write about what's going on in my life and head.
1. Our house goes on the market on Monday. The psychology of selling a house is so interesting. It's a game that you play with potential buyers. The agent told me the wood hangers I have in my closet would make a great impression, but he told me to pack away all my clothes except for my nicest 5 suits, 5 shirts, 5 skirts and 5 pants and space them 1 inch apart on the rod. He said it gives the illusion of spaciousness and luxury. He told me to display my designer handbags on the shelf and nicest 5 pairs of shoes, but to put the rest away. We have to add a floral arrangement in our master bath, but put away things like mouthwash and toothpaste. In the living room he said to take down all my photos except three--one family, one kiddo, one other. This way, the family buying the house can visualize themselves there and not us, but there are some photos out so they don't think we are selling the house because of a divorce and know that we were happy here. No magnets on the fridge, and he wants all the toys in one room. I can do most of this, but I have some toys everywhere, and I don't know how easy it will be to keep that part of the house in show mode all the time.
2. Lately, it has been hazardous to be me. Two stories:
a. A couple of weeks ago, the Cars DVD was on sale at Costco and R decided to buy it along with garbage bags and Cascade. When we left the store, R put Boo Boo in the car seat and got him some crackers while I loaded the SUV. We had only purchased a few items, but my bad, I left the DVD in the cart and never loaded it in our SUV. So when we get home, and I realized what I had done, I thought I'd call Costco to see if someone turned it in. I was watching the Backyardigans with Boo Boo on the couch and asked R to bring me the phone. He grabs the cordless phone, and when he's about 2 steps away from me, he decides to toss the phone into my lap as he's done a bunch of times in the past. But I'm feeling bad about the DVD, so I get up to get the phone from him, all helpful, you know, and the moment I am rising, the phone is already airborne and collides smack into my head. It really hurt and I had a bump on my head for a solid week! The scary part was that I had Boo Boo in my arms and I'm so glad it didn't hit him. He started to cry anyway when he saw me cry.
b. About week or so ago, I bought a new pair of wedge sandals at DSW. They were my first pair of wedge sandals, and they were pretty comfortable because they were Aerosoles. I know people have been wearing wedges for years but I just had never bought a pair for myself. While getting lunch last week, I tripped somehow, twisted my ankle a bit, and landed on both my knees. Luckily, it was on linoleum so I didn't do too much damage. I thought it was because the shoes weren't scuffed up at the bottom, but they had traction. Apparently, it was a combo of clumsy me and the fact that the heel of the shoe was pretty skinny between the ball of my foot and my ankle. When I left to go home after work, I fell again, this time pretty hard, and in parking garage on the concrete. I ripped my pants, scraped up my knee, split my toe nail, sprained my ankle and severely bruised my ego. The stupid scab on my knee prevents me from bending it all the way so sitting, standing, and squatting all hurt, and I cannot believe how much time I spend on the floor changing a diaper or playing with Boo Boo at his level.
3. This past weekend, as we were cleaning and packing away magnets and picture frames, I watched the Oscars. What was the giant Nicole Kidman red bow? Didn't she learn from the criticism Charlize Theron got for her giant bow the year before? But maybe giant bows are in, because Anne Hathway had one too, and Jessica Beil had a smallish one. Helen Mirren, Maggie Gylenhall and Reese Witherspoon were my choices for Best Dressed. I liked Ellen for the most part. The interpretive dancers were useless. And I thought the guy who one best short film gave a great speech about hope between the two Israeli and Palestinian falafel stands.
4. I met a girl who could be a friend last month. I found out the lawyer on the other side of a case I have been working on clerked on the same court as me but two years later, and she has a 1 year old so we had lunch last week and it was nice. I think we were both a bit reserved because we are on opposite sides of the case, but I'm friends with a friend of one of her friends, so maybe it will work out. I think I've been a little lonely lately. I worked so much last month and spent all my free time caring for Boo Boo that this month, I made a conscious effort to do more social things. We went to a birthday party for Roo Roo at the Children's Museum, which was really nice (Boo Boo impressed everyone with the massive quantities of watermelon he consumed!) and have had a play date with two six month old little girls that gave me a chance to visit with their moms who used work with me at my old job. The babies were too little to be super interesting to Boo Boo but it was still a good time. Hummus was consumed and there was much laughter. On Friday night, I am going out with a woman I work with and her friends. I've met this group twice now, and I'm getting to know their names and personalities and am really looking forward to it.
5. Anyone who loves Target should check out their dollar bins this week before all the Easter stuff gets added to it. They have really nice size educational Sesame Street board books for $1 right now. Cookie Monster's Food, Elmo's Colors, Big Bird's Shapes and Grover's Animals are all available and the Elmo's Colors, specifically, have been a big hit at my house. Especially because there is an orange ball and a yellow duck on the page.
6. I think my kid has better rhythm than me. He claps whenever he hears music, and I swear he is more on beat than me. Although its not hard to be more on beat than can't-dance-no-balance me. It was adorable to see him clapping to Joan Jett's I Love Rock N Roll in the car yesterday. He does these really wide claps like when a rock star wants to get his audience to clap along with him at a concert and its soo cute!
7. Has anyone read The Kite Runner? It takes place in Afghanistan but a similar kite festival, called Basant, takes place in Pakistan. Now a religious party wants to cancel it because the festival apparently stems from pagan times and some people have died. I guess its like that sect of Christianity who doesn't celebrate Christmas and those who don't like Halloween. But its so sad to me, because what does a joyful day flying kites hurt anything? Be more like us Americans, guys. Celebrate the festival and sue the manufacturers of the nylon string responsible for the decapitation.
:)
