The other day a guy I work with was getting a group together to go out to lunch. He stopped by my office to see if I was free and asked me a question that I didn't really know how to answer: "Do you like Asian food?"
Asian food? I've never really heard anyone lump the whole continent together. Here's the thing, buddy. Asia is a giant landmass with a variety of culinary delights. I paused, not sure what say, and finally said, "Do you mean, like, South Asian, or what?" I love North Indian/Pakistani food. Not a fan of the dosa. I love Thai dishes with basil, the coconut curries, and the tom kha gai soup. Some pho is okay, but I don't generally crave Vietnamese food. Japanese tempura is great, but I can't do sushi; even the cooked stuff just doesn't taste good to me. And I've never had Korean barbeque, though I've heard it's great. Hummus and falafel are excellent, even though folks usually call that Persian or Middle-Eastern food.
Turns out the group was going to PF Changs. You know, the sort-of Chinese bistro started by Paul Fleming in Arizona. Asian food, right?
