A little work vent to start: when a partner asks if you have a little time to help get some discovery out it's a little misleading when what he really wants you to do is to gather documents and responses from the 53 plaintiffs the firm represents and draft 53 x 4 discovery documents in 10 days.
Now for the update. Boo Boo is turning 2 in September and we have ordered this invitation for his Elmo party. He's pretty obsessed with Elmo. Elmo is his Beatles, New Kids on the Block, and N'Sync all rolled into one. Elmo is a bit annoying, but he learns so much watching it. And putting on the bananas episode is a sure-fire way to get him to eat a piece of the yellow fruit. Thanks to Elmo, Boo Boo can now say bananas ("nanas") and do Zoe's happy dance, which is so freaking cute its kind of worth putting up with the little red furball.
I have mixed feelings about the TV in general. On the one hand, I don't want him to watch too much TV and become a couch potato, but on the other hand, he doesn't watch it all day in day care, and he's full of energy. Elmo's World, which he loves, is in 15 minute segments and really that's all I need to get dinner ready. So we watch Elmo's World and the Backyardigans.
The Backyardigans is a really cute show of little animals that all play in the backyard using their imaginations. They sing, they dance, and the stories amuse me. The best part is the theme song is light hearted and fun to sing, unlike the annoying theme song to Dora/Diego, or worse, The Wonder Pets. Uusually the Wonder Pets comes on right after the Backyardigans so when we DVR the Backyardigans, a snippet of the Wonder Pets usually records. The show is freaky weird. It's all animated, except for these three real life animals (Wonder Pets) that help other animals in trouble. I hate the duck that lisps. And if anyone says "the phone is ringing" that stupid theme song is instantly in my head.
In other news, R and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary last week. We went to Fogo de Chao, which I was really looking forward to trying, but I think is a bit overrated. It's a Brazillian restuarant and they keep bringing out all kinds of grilled meat: filet mignon, ribeye, sirloin, lamb chops, etc. It's all you can eat, with a giant salad bar. It was pricey, and the restuarant looked like it was designed by the same architect who designed PF Changs. The restuarant was dark, cramped and loud. We got seated 40 minutes after our reservation, and although the food was good, I don't think I need to go back. I'm glad we went because it was a new experience, but once is enough. I might take my dad the next time he is in town, because he is an all you can eat fan and loves meat.
We are going on our first much needed vacation in 3 years to lovely Carmel-by-the-Sea. The in-laws have Boo Boo and we will be on our own for 5 long days at the Pine Inn. A friend recommended it and her pictures were beautiful. I can't wait.
But before we go, I play single mom for a while. R is going out of town for work for five days, and hopefully there won't be any ER adventures to share with him when he gets back.
